MIXTAPE - A collection of portraits of 80's musicians

And So it begins with the really cool Mr Jimmy Somerville a true gentleman and true professional. It was great to meet Mr Somerville today and huge thanks to him and all at SOLAR for getting the ball rolling and this project off the ground.

Jimmy's portrait shoot begins my personal photography project - a journey to photograph all the artists that would have been on a mix tape I had from 1986 when I left home and moved to Crouch End at 19 years old until 1989.

This mix tape would have been the soundtrack to my life back then, I was obsessed with vintage music but still kept a keen eye on popular music.
The last part of the 80's were an amazing time of discovery but they were also tough; back then young people were more politically aware and we fought against right wing policies and ideologies of  a Thatcher government.
We marched and we boycotted and we partied really hard.  Music was hugely important and we played it on Vinyl and we would tape stuff onto audio tapes and listen to it on our really cool walkmans!

It was important to me to have Jimmy Somerville's involvement in this project as songs like Small town boy were a part of my life,  and indeed this particular song did mirror somewhat what was going on for me at that time.

Here is a backstage shot of Jimmy from yesterdays shoot - Portrait to follow, and watch this space for more info on this project and who else has agreed to get involved.

Model Casting at Holborn Studios for the upcoming Arada photo shoot with Liam Forrest creative Director at Bright Blue Day.

Great news that Holborn Studios has been saved from the property developers that have been trying to get their hands on the studio for years.. very pleased to hear that it will continue to serve the photographic community now as an officially listed and protected building.
